DALE CANNERY BURNT TO THE GROUND
By: Miss Muriel Stacey

It was lightning that struck into the Dale Cannery last night, June 19th, at around ten pm. There is nothing left of the lobster cannery, all except for the sooty remains of the buildings’ frame. There was an heroic attempt to save the cannery, but with the northwesterly winds blowing fiercely, it became a wasted effort, and when the roof came crashing down, the Dale cannery turned into a great, big bonfire, never to be there again. The Dales are hoping  to rebuild again, if the bank allows. Until then, there will be no more canned lobster for the markets, such as the Avonlea General Store, Carmody Hill Merchandise, and Darrie’s Eatery.    canneryF.jpg
