King Farm

King Farm
"The King Farm House is cozy house with fields and trees surrounding it. Down at the bottom of a field it overlooks a small pond. Wood was always stacked at the edge of the back door behind the house, that is, if Felix didn't forget to do it. In the kitchen there was always a variety of smells- usually fresh bread and pies in the oven, with a good hot stew bubbling on top. The kitchen counters were blue, and the wallpaper was a light yellow with small brown flowers. All the curtains had lace windows, and the table was neatly set with blue and white dishes. "The floor,"  Janet chuckled, "I never have to clean it since that dog came into our house." she finished, pointing to the golden dog, who was sleeping on the floor. The small, crooked little stairway next to the stove led to Felicity's room, then Felix's, then Janet's and Alec's, and across the small little hallway was Great Aunt Eliza's room. Adjoining the hallway there was another stairway, going downstairs into a wide room that joined the kitchen, parlor and the front door. The front door, which was a little lean-to, had coats, shawls, hats, mittens, scarves and boots flung everywhere. As always, it was never tidy. How can it be tidy with seven people living in the house, including that ever so frisky dog, Digger! Well, the parlor was never anything similar to it. It was always so clean, fresh and spotless! "Thanks to me." Felicity can't help but think. The walls were wallpapered a dark greenish brown with stripes. The dark blue-brown lounges and sofa looked elegant with the the walls and dark curtains, curtains which had lace behind them. Rugs were lain neatly at the foot of the small step adjoining the square hallway. Great Grandmother Ward's piano sits neatly against the wall, with the King family pictures on top if it. The furniture in the King home was a mismatched mix of everything. Alec and Janet's bed was rickety and old, they might just end up on the floor one night! At the end of that old, noisy bed, was a wicker cradle, with a sleeping baby Daniel in it. The dresser had scratches all over it, and on top of it lay Janet's music box, and Alec's odds and ends. Their room was never really the tidiest. Felicity, however, kept her shared room as neat and clean as possible. Supposedly, nothing was ever amiss in that dark green wallpapered room, with Cecily's dolls neatly on her bed, and Felicity's own books, magazines, clothes and hats in their place. Well, Felix, on the other hand, desperately tried to keep his dog and steam tractor wallpapered bedroom tidy, it never really happened to stay that way, especially when trout are leaping in the pond, just waiting to be caught! Aunt Eliza had a spic and span room, not a dust ball anywhere in sight. Typical. In Avonlea, the King farm house was a comfy, perfect home for the King family, and they couldn't be any happier."
